what is a lip & tongue tie?

You see that cord under your baby's tongue? That's called a "frenum" or "frenulum." You also have one under your lips. It's totally normal to have a frenulum, so what makes it "tied"?

When the frenulum under the tongue is too short or too tight, it impairs the tongue's placement and mobility, resulting in dysfunction of the swallow, speech, and breathing. This could mean difficulties with breastfeeding for your infant, speech articulation for your developing child and sleep issues if your child mouth-breathes.

What is a tongue tie?

A tongue tie is the attachment underneath your tongue called a “Frenulum.” It is a fold of skin that supports the motion of whatever it attaches to. Fun fact: Everyone has one!
